Quality Control Technician

Immediate Supervisor: Quality Control Manager The Quality Control Technician is responsible for ensuring all precast concrete products meet company standards, ACI and NPCA requirements, project requirements, and customer expectations. Key Responsibilities

  • Daily Inspections and Testing:
    • Perform pre-pour and post-pour inspections of forms, rebar, embeds, and finished concrete products.
    • Verify wet concrete testing for slump, air content, unit weight, and strength per ACI standards.
    • Conduct required raw material testing.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Accurately complete QC reports, inspection sheets, test records, and non-conformance reports.
    • Maintain documentation for NPCA audits.
    • Communicate quality issues to Production Supervisors and recommend corrective actions.
    • Evaluate, document, and inspect necessary concrete repairs. Report causes of defects and provide root cause analysis.
    • Perform spot checks of final inspections of products, loading, and tie-down procedures.
  • Production Support:
    • Work directly with production teams to resolve quality issues.
    • Perform and document spot-checks of concrete transport regarding placement, consolidation, and finishing.
    • Monitor curing and stripping procedures to ensure quality and safe handling.
  • Compliance and Standards:
    • Familiar with all State DOT Standards and Specifications, ACI and ASTM Standards, and NPCA procedures and specifications.
    • Interact with State Highway, Department of Transportation personnel, and inspection agencies to ensure proper procedures are followed.
    • Participate in Safety and Quality meetings.
    • Obtain technical certifications required or directed by Quality Control Manager, ensuring certifications remain current in areas of ACI, NPCA, and DOT requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • General:
    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Experience in the construction or concrete industry preferred.
    • NPCA PQS Level 1 certification (or willingness to obtain).
    • Ability to achieve the American Concrete Institute Field Technician Level 1 Certification within one year of hire.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with team members and management.

Physical Requirements

  • Required to stand, walk, stoop, crouch, kneel, bend, climb, or sit for extended periods of time, including a minimum of a full 8-hour shift.
  • Ability to climb in and around concrete structures.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Working Environment

  • Work is performed in a moderate noise level atmosphere, working near moving mechanical parts.
  • Work is performed on a concrete floor subject to ambient temperatures and may be exposed to adverse weather conditions.
