Position Summary
As the Structural Engineer EIT, you will use engineering knowledge and principles to perform structural design, organize and coordinate project tasks, and support the Engineering Manager.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Utilize structural analysis and design software for vaults, box culverts, retaining walls, custom structures, and ancillary structures.
- Analyze and interpret contract drawings, submittals, and production drawings.
- Review custom projects with the sales team to optimize design and production cost-effectiveness.
- Perform pre-bid, preliminary designs to support competitive bidding.
- Prepare engineering documents for project submittal packages and produce drawings after approval.
- Manage production and submittal drawings for all stock/standard products.
- Review designs prepared by outside engineering firms.
- Write letters or provide technical assistance to customers for job-specific issues.
- Collaborate with operations and steel fabrication teams to design custom formwork.
- Meet with operations teams and plant managers to resolve design or drawing-related issues.
- Maintain knowledge of plant operations to ensure efficient design.
- Stay current on precast industry standards and innovations.
Required Experience & Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification or ability to obtain within 12 months (title will be “Designer” until obtained).
- Knowledge of structural principles for steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed concrete.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience using structural analysis software.
- Experience with or willingness to learn MathCAD and AutoCAD.
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong initiative and urgency in meeting deadlines.
Preferred / Desired Qualifications
- Experience with reinforced concrete or structural steel design.
- Experience with precast concrete design is a plus.
- Reliable transportation for occasional travel to other offices, plants, customer sites, or meetings.
- Ability and willingness to obtain licensure in Maryland and surrounding states.
Working Conditions
Work is performed 95% of the time in a general office environment. Work is mostly sedentary but may require occasional walking or standing. Fieldwork may occur in manufacturing facilities or job sites in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, wet, or dry conditions.
Schedule
- Full-time position with standard business hours.
- Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required.
