We are seeking a Quality Control Manager to join our growing team in Chestertown, MD. The Quality Control Manager is responsible for overseeing the quality control operations at our precast concrete manufacturing facilities. This role ensures all products meet internal quality standards, project specifications, and DOT regulations.
The Quality Control Manager works closely with production, engineering, dispatch, and sales teams to maintain and improve product quality. We take great pride in our ability to provide customers with top-quality products at our four production manufacturing facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain Gillespie’s Quality Control Program.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies, DOTs, and NPCA requirements while maintaining current certifications.
- Lead and execute approval processes in potential new areas of growth and development.
- Inspections and Testing
- Serve as the primary point of contact during NPCA audits with NPCA inspectors.
- Interact with and develop relationships with various Departments of Transportation and other jurisdictions.
- Oversee all raw material testing and concrete testing documentation.
- Documentation and Reporting
- Oversee or perform checks of daily quality control documentation.
- Oversee or perform and document checks on concrete transporting related to placement, consolidation, and finishing.
- Oversee or perform final inspections of products, including loading and tie-down procedures.
- Track, evaluate, document, and inspect all concrete repairs; report causes of defects and advise personnel on corrective actions.
- Training and Supervision
- Supervise, train, coach, and develop the Quality Control Team, including hiring, directing, and performance evaluations.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and safety among staff.
- Compliance
- Ensure all precast products meet quality standards.
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot concrete mix designs.
- Maintain understanding of batching systems, DOT regulations, and NPCA requirements.
- Work closely with the Quality Control Team and provide guidance when interacting with outside inspection agencies.
- Ensure all necessary equipment calibrations are performed and documented, including testing, batching, and post-tensioning equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in precast concrete or a related construction/manufacturing environment.
- Technical Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Certifications in ACI or PCI.
- Strong knowledge of ASTM, ACI, and regional DOT quality standards.
- Strong understanding of precast concrete production processes, including mix designs and casting.
- Proficiency with basic computer-based quality control documentation systems.
- Leadership and Management: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong organizational, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, crouch, kneel, bend, climb, or sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in an industrial environment with exposure to weather, dust, and heavy equipment.
- Regularly lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required on the production floor.
Schedule / Special Requirements
- Willingness to work overtime, early mornings, late evenings, holidays, and weekends as required.
- Ability to walk and stand for full 8–12 hour shifts.
